Ready for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the Porsche 918 plug-in hybrid vehicle claims supercar performance, with a clean conscience. The concept car aims to put together fuel efficiency and performance in a single package. It has two electric motors, one for each axle, and with a total output of 218hp. A V8 engine with 500 hp is also available. According to what Porsche says, the 918 Spyder can go from zero to 62mph in just three seconds, have a top speed of 198mph and also have a fuel efficiency of 78mpg.
The car, in essence has four different driving modes to make both performance, and its green claims feasible. The E drive mode draws power from the batteries and gives the car a range of 16 miles. The Hybrid Mode puts the engine to work as well. Then there’s the Sport Hybrid mode, which is quite like the hybrid mode, only with more of the V8 engine involved. Finally, the Race Hybrid mode puts the concept into a performance drive with both powertrains giving it their maximum.
